Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
Brittanias are gorgeous, even if I can only afford the "scruffy" ones that apmex sometimes has. The 1st set of lunars are great too, but I'm not at all wild about the 2nd series (I hate that font they use).

New Zealand Kiwis
I only have 2004, 2005, and 2007 so far. The only silver bullion coins I own that are not SAEs, Maples, Libertads, or Prospectors. Very low mintages... Still have Ronald McDonald on the obverse, however... :favorites21: |

Not sure why. Something about the feel of them. And I have fond memories of Vienna. |
Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
Oh yeah, I forgot the silver Philharmonics! I picked some of those up when they first came out. Very nice coin...

Love my Brits!

Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
Had to think about that one a while and eventually voted for the Britannias.

Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
I like the Kooks! I just started collecting them when I saw the 2008 version. Now if they only had a silver or gold coin with mallards on them I would have a new favorite.

Whatever's cheapest!:bear_w00t:
Women are for quality, silver is for quantity. Guns are for both! |

I may have been guilty of that myself at one point, but I'm older and wiser now. I have a little different view of quality now, as well. |
Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
For hoarding I have eagles for my fave atm, but for collecting for fun I kinda like the new koala series. I have a coupla rolls of each year so far- if they catch on and become popular I'll sell them as sets. Uh... I hope they become popular.
Fwiw I had to pay MUCH more for 2008 rolls than 2007- a good sign I hope. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...-koala-300.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...KOALA20Rev.jpg |

The Lunars are my favorite, with the Britannia's coming a close second.
My favorite Brittania: http://www.panix.com/~barman/Britann...tannia-Rev.gif |
Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
I probably voted for Lunars at the time, but I am currently really fond of the 2008 Kooks.

Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
As far as hoarding... ASEs, original rolls, mint sealed.
As far as collecting... Any Australian coin that has a nice picture, is still in a case, and 10oz or kilo sizes. |

Actually, I sold my Kiwis. 2004 - $50, 2005 - $156, 2007 - $83. Not bad, considering that I bought them for $35 each a couple of years ago. Now my silver consists of: SAEs Maples Libertads Philharmonics Prospectors I like Libertads because they have no face value, unlike SAEs, Maples, and Phils. As far as numbers go, I currently have more Prospectors than anything else, followed by SAEs, Phils, Libertads, and then Maples. I like 'em all, though, and try to stock up on whichever one is cheapest, when I'm ready to buy. Bought most of my Phils during this latest dip, got some shipping from Bullion Direct right now, should be here early next week. |

Why Philharmonics? When I hold those in hand they just look and feel like real money. There is something about Phils I like. The more I look and feel those the more I like them. :emotions16: Other silver coins just look like some kind of collectable thing. Pretty collectable of course ;) |
Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
Just my personal opinion but I don't see SAE's, Maples, Philharmonics as sets per se. To be a coin set as opposed to some coins with different dates it seems that there should be some difference between the years.

I have this one as a screen saver. She's fantastic! (Tom D took the excellent photo!)

Re: Which Silver Bullion Set is your Favorite
I'm curious why no one mentioned Kangaroos. First post and I know I'm rehashing an old thread. Hope that's not a major faux pas around here.
At the moment, Skippy's are tied with Britannias as my favorites. Their mintages are similar to early Brits (or below them). They feature new designs every year and the craftwork is exceptional. Like some Brits and most Kookaburras (which are also high on my list of favs), the specimen designs are essentially reverse proofs. I particularly like the 2001-03 Aboriginals, which make for a nice, short sub-set. I guess the answer to "what is my favorite?" question tends to depend on the current state of things, though. I'm also quite fond of SAE's, Maples, Libertads and Phils. When spot prices are low I tend to favor these more widely distributed, "by the roll" types. BTW, eyeofliberty's photo of the Kiwi now has me wanting to add some of those. I was not familiar with them before. Any tips on finding them? |
